: Your symptom is quite nonspecific and I do not think there is any relationship with your blood test results. ANA titer 80 with speckled pattern does not have any diagnostic value and those abnormalities (high BUN, high BUN/Creat and high RDW) need to be interpreted individually, they are not typical manifestations of a certain problem.

i had an ana ifa screen w/reflex to titer and pattern blood test & the results were a homogeneous pattern is associated with systemic lupus erythematosus, drug-induced lupus. is there a way to prove it is not drug-induced lupus? i take no medications?

: Anti histone antibody is classically associated with drug induced lupus.  Another question would be - what are the signs and symptoms suggesting lupus?  Most ANA are not significant.  Figures from 5-10% of the general population show positive lupus testing.  Most will never go on to lupus, fortunately.

: Autoimmune conditions are not diagnosed on labs alone. The whole clinical picture must be taken into account. It is not unusual to have a positive ANA and no defined autoimmune illness. You need to follow up with the doctor who ordered your tests for next steps.

An ANA test measures the pattern and amount of these autoantibodies that can attack the body's tissues as if they were foreign. An indirect fluorescent antibody (ifa) test is one that uses two antibodies for detection.

: Yes, this is considered a positive result &amp; a speckled nuclear pattern can be seen in various disorders. You don't describe your symptoms. The combination of ANA testing and characteristic symptoms are required in order to diagnose autoimmune disease. A rheumatologist is best qualified to evaluate,advise,treat &amp; follow you. Further appropriate testing will be ordered,I'm sure.

: Positive ANA with 1:320 titer is truly positive but it does not mean you have lupus, especially with that pattern. You should let us know the reason why you had this serology test done. Do not panic, ANA antibody is not specific to any specific auto-immune disease, just follow up with your doctor for further information.

Having said that, it appears that you have an auto-immune disorder for which you are taking Humira. If that is the case a positive ANA at 1:40 is not meaningful.

: The diagnosis of lupus requires a combination of clinical findings paired with certain lab values. There is no one lab test that unequivocally clinches the diagnosis. I think it would be worthwhile for you to consult a rheumatologist at the dept of rheumatology at a university hospital near you for evaluation and advice.  If you do,bring records of tests with you.
