i had retinal tears treated for both eyes 3 months ago. i saw an eye doctor recently and he said i have holes, can i exercise having holes in retina?

Treated holes?: I prese that your laser treatment involved treating these retinal holes so that your retina doesn't detach. Your treating ophthalmologist should be available to address your question and concern. More importantly, there should be some discussion as to what you can and cannot do. If your retina has been examined ; thought to be stable, you should be able to return to running.

Not yet, but can be: Holes while they are holes are not serious now, but the problem is that holes can lead to retinal detachments, which are emergencies ; can affect your vision permanently ; tremendously. Holes should be treated to prevent detachments, because once you get a detachment, it's too late ; you will wish you took care of it when it is a hole. Detachments can occurs instantaneously so i suggest laser now.

had small retinal eye tear with blood into eyeball. treated week ago with laser coagulation method. electively and 1 time daily, take baby aspirin. may i resume it now? doc clinic closed today, tomorrow til monday. forgot to ask him. (??

: If you were asked to stop your aspirin for the procedure, I recommend holding it until you contact your ophthalmologist, or one covering for yours, for instructions. Aspirin effects on platelets can last over a week from stopping it

Unfortunately no: Healthy diet and vitamins can help the function of the retina, but holes are caused by anatomical weaknesses of the retina. You can have an abnormal anatomy with perfect function and vise versa. Vitamins help the retina stay healthy and function well but it will not change anatomical weaknesses. You must regularly keep an eye on your retina with consistent exams. Good question!

Retinal detachment : Due to a hole or "rhegmatogenous rd" can happen spontaneously when the vitreous separates from the retina.  This can occur as a result of natural aging in the vitreous.  Other causes of retinal holes include trauma and lattice degeneration.  Without treatment a retinal detachment will likely lead to loss of vision.

A retinal tear: Progressing to detachment can evolve over minutes to months. The process is influenced by many variables (i.e. Amount of vitreous traction, size of tear, location of tear, patient activity, etc.) and not all tears will progress to retinal detachment. Flashes of light associated with a retinal tear usually indicates traction and needs to be evaluated by your eyemd asap.

See below: New/worse eye floaters, flashing lights, and/or loss of peripheral vision (like a curtain or veil in one's vision) are symptoms. Rarely it can occur without any symptoms. If you have any of these symptoms, see and eye doctor right away.

Retinal holes: Retinal holes can either be observed or lasered.  If the retinal hole is low risk, they are observed.  If high risk (symptomatic, high near-sightedness, history of prior retinal detachment, etc), then laser should be performed.

Surgery now!: If your retina is detached, time is vision!  The sooner your retina is repaired the more likely you are to regain vision lost, or prevent permanent vision loss.  Not every detachment is the same.  Some retinal detachments can be fixed with an in-office procedure.  Don't delay!

Visual changes: When the retina tears (usually leading to retinal detachment) you will experience light flashes and streaks even with the eyes shut, large quantities of floaters, a pattern of veins like the veins on a leaf in your view and a greying out of the vision. As it advances the vision drop it is not painful so that is not a clue.  If you have any or all of these, you need to see an ophthalmologist pronto.
