Not yet, but can be: Holes while they are holes are not serious now, but the problem is that holes can lead to retinal detachments, which are emergencies ; can affect your vision permanently ; tremendously. Holes should be treated to prevent detachments, because once you get a detachment, it's too late ; you will wish you took care of it when it is a hole. Detachments can occurs instantaneously so i suggest laser now.

Retinal holes can be: Quite serious because they van lead to a retinal detachment. Once the retina detaches it loses much of its critical oxygen and nutrition. The result can be devastating. If the retina is repaired within 48 hours of detaching centrally a person may regain 100% of his vision. If a hole appears to be open ie at risk for creating a retinal detachment, i would strongly consider lasering it.

Retinal tear serious: A retinal tear is like lifting the corner of a beach towel on a windy day at the beach. If not fixed promptly, it can result in a retinal detachment. So like the beach towel, it is important to laser or cryo the edges of the tear like shoes on the corner of the beach towel to prevent a retinal detachment (which, like a flopping towel getting sand in the food, can sure spoil a beach picnic!)
