Ovarian sizes: Ovaries are invariably two different sizes normally in women. A large unilateral swelling of an ovary without cysts would be a concern that would require further investigation by the MD. At age 44, you are probably not ovulating monthly anymore as the ovaries prepare to shut down with impending menopause. Talk to your GYN MD about this issue who has made the "swelling" determination.

However having this is definitely a feeling that women have in the pelvic region. Sometimes this can be normal anatomy and sometimes there can be an ovarian cyst. A pelvic exam or an ultrasound can help your doctor discriminate if this is happening for you.

Possible cysts: Your ovaries will not exactly be of the same size. Whether there may be a growth or cysts on your ovaries, these factors will impact size. As long as you still have ovaries, they will still be producing hormones for another 10 years and therefore, will be susceptible to having cysts. Cysts are normal to have to a certain extent. It's one of these cysts that rupture to release an egg: ovulation.

Depends: If there is not a specific cyst or lesion on the ovaries, and they are just 'larger' than normal- it can be due to polycystic ovaries (which tend to be larger than 'normal').  But it doesn't necessarily suggest anything dangerous, like ovarian cancer.

: Ovaries are typically lateral (to the side of) the uterus and below/near the fallopian tubes. Would need more details for interpretation/context.
