recently my nails have been breaking extensively. not just my fingernails but my toenails too. i'm really worried. i can't grow them at all. reason?

Brittle nails: Vitamin d deficiency can lead to nail thinning. Oil of olay makes a hand and nail cream that when used over time can make them less brittle.
Nuvanail (?) is a new product out that is a polyurethane nail lacquer that when used over time also helps thicken the nails. Could be a fungus, or other nail condition - consult a local podiatrist in your area.

two weeks ago had pain in left big toe at corner of nail. also had pus and blood coming from underneath toenail. skin seems to be shredding from skin and whole big toe feels stiff, cannot bend it. what is cause?

Probably not: Sorry to give you disappointing news, but it is rare to grow after age 16-18, in fact most girls stop growing around age 14. Bone growth is caused by "growth plates" and once the growth plates close (usually 2-3 years after puberty) the bones are unable to grow. She will need to accept that she is going to be short.

Ingrown Toenail: An ingrown toenail can result from a number of things. Poorly fitting shoes and toenails that are not properly trimmed are the most common causes. The skin along the edge of a toenail may become red and infected. The great toe is affected most often, but any toenail can become ingrown.

Purpora?: Was there trauma to the area or do you have vascular disease?  If the area turning black, there could be a number of reasons, is there a smell or odor?  Is there any wound?  This may be serious because of the color.

In itself, no: Like patterns and seasons in nature, there are patterns of growth that change with or skin and supportive structures such as hair and nail.  Sometimes nails grow slower due to seasons, aging, illness and reflected in the slow growth of the nails. If there are changes in the appearance or texture in the nails, consult with your doctor.

Normal: That is just the way they are:) clip carefully, avoiding the corners so you dont cause ingrown toenails.

Nailing it: One thickened nail is more than likely due to some type of infection, although, trauma to the nail could be the cause. If all the nails are thickened I would think that the cause is more than likely some type of infection. Nails thickened due to trauma have little chance of resolving without intervention. An infection can be treated with medicine.

what might cause foot pain on top of the foot?  i have had two surgeries...a bunionecty and to repair hammer toes.  i am still working on recovery.

Pain: This is best addressed by your surgeon.  He/she knows what was done and when.  None of the docs here have access to the x rays nor do we know what was the procedure.   Your surgeon is your best source to answer any and all questions .
