my 14 month old's weight has become constant for almost 4 months now. he had a good weight gain until then. bw 2.9kg, cw 9kg. active and other things seem ok.poops are light smelly at times. vegetarian diet. should this be a cause of concern?

: His weight is supposed to be around 10 kg by now. 
How's about his height? Does it also stop or he continues to grow?
If his height ceases after 10 months, he needs to be evaluated.
If he gets taller, I would observe for now and the relative weight loss (or no weight gain for 4 months) could be from the diet change after the 10th month.

: His weight should be followed closely for the next couple of months. Be sure he has enough protein and iron from other foods as he is having a vegetarian diet. Children do go through times of not much weight gain, so may not be concerning, especially if he is growing in height. If still no gain in next few months, consider seeing a specialist or having some testing done.

Bile: The green color of stool is often related to bile and this is not necessarily abnormal if it is formed.  Other possibilities include ingestion dyes such as those found in artificially colored drinks, jello, etc.

Green stool bad?: The color of stool varies with foods, speed of emptying of the GI tract, medications & supplements ingested, gut flora (unique for each individual), additives (like blood), subtractions (like absent bile), infection, inflammation, & other factors. Consider what you consumed in the last few days. If the green color is unusual for you & persists, or is accompanied by other symptoms, see your doctor.

That depends: Tiny, hard balls can be a sign of constipation. What is the fiber content of your diet? Are you hydrating adequately with water? Enough physical activity? Dairy can be binding  - excess dairy?

Accepted Answer

Irregularity: Try increasing the fiber in your diet with plenty of fruits & vegetables; drink plenty of water to assist the fiber in normalizing bm's. There are many fiber supplements that may help as well; again, adequate fluid intake is a must. Fiber works both ways: fiber+little fluid firms the stool; fiber+plenty of fluid softens the stool. If problem persists, see fp for further evaluation.

Don't eat meat!: There are different subtypes of a vegetarian diet. Most vegetarians do not eat meat (including poultry & seafood) but do eat dairy & eggs. Some avoid all animal-derived foods (this is a vegan diet). It is important that you obtain adequate protein- excellent sources of protein include eggs, nuts, seeds, beans & dairy. what does brown string in poops indicate?

Need more info: If  all of your poops are thin and stringy, you need to get checked. If you had only one poop that  seemed to have something like a brown string but you are fine now, it is most likely something you ate.

 If this experience of a brown string keeps on happening, someone needs to make sure you don't have parasites or something blocking your poops so that they are thinner.
