Need to see your --: Surgeon, and have him reevaluate you.
Nonunion is not diagnosed after 7-8 weeks. It probably is a delayed union. So he might need to keep you in a cast till it heals. Its too early to label it as nonunion. You might need a bone stimulator for about 8-12 weeks, to promote healing. Resurgical fixation might be helpful.
If not getting anywhere then you might consider a 2nd opinion.

TFCC tear: . Where you immobilized for any time . Usual  initial treatment is immobilization for 4 -6 weeks with  removable  splint afterward . Is there instability   as that portends  need for more invasive treatment.  Since it is 6 months , it may be best to discuss with an orthopedist surgical options

my right wrist is swollen and sometimes hurts. it is uncomfortable to move my wrist. it looks like the ulnar styloid  it popped out.

Get an x-ray: If u mean spontaneously popped out, only a handfull of autoimmune conditions could lead to that, and uncommonly. If after any form of injury/trauma, then possible. Either way, it should be examined and likely x-rayed by a dr. Urgent care clinics usually can do both in same location.

what should be done about a non healed distal radial fracture? i broke my wrist in nov and had an external fixator.  it was removed jan 4.  recent x-ray report says non healed distal radial fracture and avulsed ulnar styloid.  what should my course of act

Accepted Answer

A : A lot of this is based on age.  With increasing age, bones heal a bit slower.  However, the distal radius is not an area where we usually see problems with healing.  It's been about 3 months, which is a bit slow for this area.  There are a few things that slow it down:

smoking! (or any nicotine)--this is the single biggest factor in poor bone healing.  If you use any form of nicotine, stop now!

non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin, advil, aleve, (naproxen) etc.)--these are second to nicotine in slowing bone healing.  Avoid these as much as possible.  If you take Aspirin for a heart condition, though, you should continue it.

Motion--if the fracture does not have enough holding it in place, the healing tissue will be continually disrupted and you'll get soft healing, rather than bone.  A cast or other means of immobilization can be helpful.

Poor circulation--if there is a lot of soft tissue injury around the bone, the bone may not get a good blood supply to promote healing.  There are electrical bone stimulators that help improve the "biology" of the area.

Infection--with an external fixator (or any surgery), there is an increased chance of introducing bacteria to the area of the fracture.  Antibiotics may suppress the infection until the bone heals or it may require additional surgery.

In the longer term, if the bone fails to heal, internal stabilization and bone grafting may be a possibility, but this area usually heals.

Probably surgery: Elongation of the styloid process (eagle syndrome) is recognized as one of the numerous causes of pain in the craniocervical region.Elongated temporal styloid process (more than 30mm) affects adjacent anatomical structures. Symptoms include unilateral sore throat, difficulty swallowing, tinnitus(saar ringing), unilateral facial and neck pain, and ear pain.Surgical shortening of the process.

Zostrix (capsaicin): This may work although you wont  feel great initially. Rub some over the counter capsacin xp cream on the tender area for 5 minutes twice daily. Rub hard to the point that you induce pain within 2 weeks the pain should resolve spontaneosly. Careful not to get the cream on your face. If you do you'll be forgetting about your arm pain for about 30 minutes! we use this for our chronic pain patient.

Eagle syndrome: Lyrica (pregabalin) can ease symptom of pain, but the treatment for this syndrome is surgery.

Nothing, unless: You are complaining you have pain.
If your having pain then the doc needs to make a plan with you. This might require surgery where the 2 bones can be reunited. If the doc think s that is the cause of your discomfort....That is if you have discomfort.

May be a problem: If your foot is "very cold" see your Dr. Right away. It may be a circulation problem. Make sure you follow your doctor's directions so it heals properly. Usually those fifth metatarsal fractures have to be immobilized in a boot. They take about 6 to 8 weeks to heal. Some of them take longer to heal.
