Genetic factors: Influence intellect, stature, physical appearance, predisposition to certain diseases, etc., some of which can be modified by lifestyle or environmental factors. For each of these, you received 1/2 your genetic material from your father & 1/2 from your mother. If you're dissatisfied with your appearance, consult both a psychologist & a plastic surgeon for objective assessments & treatment options.

Focus: With some people, their inner beauty exceeds what their  outter beauty is perceived to be.  Sometimes focusing on what they think is wrong with themselves rather than what they think is right about themself. Usually with body dysmorphic disorder the individual focuses on a specific perceived problem with a body part. I hope you focus on what you like about yourself.

If your are: Incredibly skinny - i suspect that gaining weight could give a more wholesome appearance. Beauty & ugly are in the eye of the beholder. Don't know your gender. But some prefer a rubenesque look.  The emphasis on being skinny has become unhealthy in our society. By the same token, obesity rates have risen significantly in the us (esp for children).

What's really up?: A marked birth defect can be fixed surgically, but by and large, less severe variables aren't worth trying to conceal. People who know you notice how you move, talk, how physically fit you are much more than your not having a "Hollywood-pretty" face, and if you're liked (i.e., you treat others well) people won't want to see your face change at all -- they like it because it's yours.

Gifts: The key  is that you "feel" ugly. How we see ourselves & the reality can be quite different.  I suspect that you have never been taught to see the beauty that dwells within you.  I would  prefer to spend my time with a person who is truely good inside than one who possessed only physical beauty. Just from the 2 lines you wrote - i suspect you are humble. Humility is a gift. Develop your gifts!

Therapy: See a good therapist to help you learn better self-confidence. Make a list of each part of your body and find at least one good thing about each. For example, if you don't really like your feet, you can still say that they are good at getting you where you are going! put the list where you will see it and remind yourself daily of all your good qualities. Stop calling yourself ugly!
