he has a small lump about the size of a dime on the right side of his jaw line, under the skin.  he also has bumps like ingrown hair bumps on his lips.  his lips have been dry and red.  the lump is some what painfull.

Probable infection: Sounds most like a virus affecting the lips, possibly cold sores, and the lump is then a reactive lymph node trying to fight the infection.  You could try an OTC cold sore medication like Abreva, and apply warm compress to the lump for 5 minutes (or more) every hour while awake to help it to do its job and reduce the pain.  If other symptoms develop, like headache or fever, it may be time for doc.

Many possibilities: Bumps under the skin could be as a result of different reasons of which could include an ingrown hair, acne, infection, cysts, abscess, or an allergic reaction to various things like detergents or soaps or to medications.  Have it evaluated by your physician to get the appropriate treatment.

A lump like this`: really needs to be felt by your PCP (Primary Care Provider) however it sounds like an old inflammed LYMPH NODE (gland) from an old infection! The LOCATION as well as the SIZE and CONSISTANCY are used to determine if it needs to be removed!

No worries : A mass that size that’s been stable for two years is very unlikely to be anything worrisome. It most is a skin cyst that requires no treatment. If it’s lower down on the bridge of your nose just blow the eye, it could be a cyst of the tear duct but if you’re not having any trouble with excessive tearing and that’s very unlikely.
