i have trochanteric bursitis in my hip. i also have a very tender indented spot 6-8 inches down my leg. no injury/trauma or redness/swelling  concern?

Probably not: Bursitis can occasionally herald an inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis or spondyloarthritis.  More commonly, however, it is due either to overuse such as running with poor form, or to obesity.  Stretching, antiinflammatories like nsaids, and using proper technique when exercising are ways to lessen the bursitis pain.  If it comes back, have your doctor check it out.

Venous insufficiency: Swelling of the ankle without trauma is likely inability of the veins to pump blood back to the heart,  as a result blood pools and the ankle swells.  Use a compression stocking and see if the swelling reduces.

Heart, Liver, Kidney: Disease and decreased function as well as increased salt intake, stopping diuretics, will all lead to swelling, but usually involve both legs.  One side, maybe from pressure on the veins draining that side. Do you have any swelling in the groin/belly on that side? 
Worth a visit to the doctor.

ive had a large hematoma on the outside of my thigh due to trauma from a horseback riding accident 7 years ago. the swelling has not gone away and now im experiencing numbness. should i be concerned?

: Generally hematomas resolve spontaneously over time. However, surgically removing or evacuating the blood in a hematoma sometimes becomes necessary due to its symptoms or location. Most common...: Most common cause of knee pain @ your age without a history of any trauma to the knee and no rheumatologic conditions is patellofemoral or kneecap pain. If it continues or worsens see your physician for examination. Best of luck!

Skin condition: There are many different skin conditions that could cause this from dermatitis/eczema, psorisis, or something more serious. Depends on how long it has been there, other symtoms like itching  or pain or if it bleeds or drains any. A picture would help. you may need it biopsied to find out specifically what is causing it. You could try topical hydrocortisone cream for a short period if it helps.

Get examined: It would help to know how you hurt your knee( direct fall on it...Awkward landing after a jump w/ a 'pop', etc.). The mechanism of injury can often lead to a certain diagnosis. A good examination of your non- injured knee, then a thorough exam of the injured knee by an experienced ors should give you your diagnosis . If needed, an MRI may be helpful to confirm...
