There are many medications one can take in conjunction with tofranil, however there are some medications that are absolutely contraindicated such as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. Other medications can affect the blood levels of imipramine. Check with your physician or  pharmacist prior to combining any medication with imipramine.

Imipramine if taken in a very high  dose can cause a rhythm disturbance in the heart and result in sudden death. At low doses used for some issues it is rarely a problem.The proper use requires proper training and understanding of the drug.

It can be useful for depression, anxiety, chronic pain and insomnia.  It should be avoided in patients with bipolar disorder -- even during the depressed phase -- because tcas can precipitate mania.  Side effects (constipation, etc.) can be prohibitive.

1-2 weeks: Tofranil (imipramine) or Imipramine is an old tricyclic antidepressant.  You get two types of withdrawal, anticholinergic which can cause sleep problems and diarrhea on withdrawal, and antidepressant withdrawal which is dizziness and flu-like symptoms.  They are usually mild.  If the symptoms are lasting longer than two weeks or worsen i would suspect a return of the underlying condition eg depression.

In that meeting, your doctor will listen to you, perform a throrough examination and possibly order labs or other tests. Based on this information, he/she will be able to tell you what's wrong and what to do about it.
