is there anyway to fix a bunion and hammer toes without surgery?

Bunion and hammertoe: yes. But it depends on how bad the deformity is. In some mild or simple cases of bunions and hammertoes an orthotic in the shoes can help realign the mechanics of the foot and reduce the deformities. In more severe cases when the deformity is more rigid/ arthritis, it's less likely an insert will work and surgery is indicated. Go see your local Podiatrist and have you foot evaluated

Multiple causes ...: What type of bunion surgery was performed?  During surgery, the nerve could have been inadvertently damaged causing the numbness.  Losing balance could be a result of the type of bunion surgery ... The first metatarsal is not bearing most of the weight as a result of the bone cut.  Would need more background information but you need to have someone review your history.

considering 2nd toe amputation instead of bunion surgery to include shortening 2nd and 3rd toes.  what are the negatives?  will bunion become worse?

Surgical repair: My usual tendency would be to surgically repair verses amputation.  in very severe cases I will recommend amputation, but this is very rare. With amputation you will continue to have progression of the bunion and hammertoes and deviation to the 3rd, 4th, and 4th toes. The amputation can also lead to increased pressure under certain bones in the ball area of the foot.

: It sounds like you are describing an over correction of your bunion deformity. That very well can happen but should not have happened. You did not say when surgery performed. Answer to your question is yes. Anything you can do to hold the toe in a proper position is of benefit . However, if surgery has been months unlikely to change the position of the toe. But no harm in positioning yourself.

YES: THEY COULD BECOME LOOSE. IF YOU FEEL PAIN YOU SHOULD SEE YOUR SURGEON ASAP. GET IT REMOVED OR REPLACED IF NEEDED.
