Bunion and hammertoe: yes. But it depends on how bad the deformity is. In some mild or simple cases of bunions and hammertoes an orthotic in the shoes can help realign the mechanics of the foot and reduce the deformities. In more severe cases when the deformity is more rigid/ arthritis, it's less likely an insert will work and surgery is indicated. Go see your local Podiatrist and have you foot evaluated

No: In 30 years of practice, I have never seen a bunion corrected by orthotics, splinting or other external devices. Certainly, improving the biomechanics of the foot can help prevent bunions by slowing or arresting their development, but once the deformity is present, surgery is the only method of "curing" it. That being said, many small deformities may respond to shoe modification or simple padding.
