my ankle has been hurting for about a week now. it feels like a burning sensation in the outside part of my right ankle, with pins and needles feeling in my big and second toes. what could this be? i have tendonitis in my hips and back?

What R U doing?: What r u doing that is causing the tendonitis?  If you don't stop or change what or how your are doing the activity that causes the tendonitis, it can get better with rest but will likely return if you return to the same repetitive motions/postures.

I do not think so: The recovery time is about 4-6 weeks it depend what kind job you have.

Scapular muscles...: Are usually the first and most effective exercises to do for shoulder or more commonly rotator cuff injuries. This includes rows and internal/external rotation motions starting out with isometric and then progressing from there. Generally, you should avoid over-head techniques as they will likely irritate you.

Frequent stretching: Chronic tendinitis occurs due to overload of the tendon leading to changes to the tissue. Try to avoid bent knee actvities (squats, stairs, lunges). Stretching of quad and hamstrings, ice massage, ultrasound, tissue massage, patellar strap. Some success with topic creams. Prp controversial. Rarely surgical.

Overuse/Compensation: Peroneal tendonitis is an inflammation of the tendon and tendon sheath complex of the peroneus longus and brevis tendons. These tendons arise from muscles in the outside of the lower leg and course behind the fibula (ankle bone on outside of ankle). Walking on the outside of the foot (often to avoid pain on the inside of the foot or heel) can lead to this condition as can a bad ankle sprain.

Eccentric stretches: Eccentric stretching and strengthening of the calf muscle and achilles' tendon has been shown to be most beneficial for recurring cases.  An orthotic with a small heel lift may be useful for a year or so.

: What have you been doing in the meantime?  You need a program of rehab consisting of ice message of tendon followed by proper stretching of the quadricep muscles followed my icing. Muscle strengthening should be performed prior to icing if not painful. See a physical therapist for a properly structured program to prevent reoccurrence.  Pronation can aggravate this condition.
