i had a tooth extraction 5 days ago.the pain hasn't stopped and my gums are swelling regularly,  usually every 3 hours. please advise. i've had teeth extracted before and never had a problem.

Where exactly is the lump?
Bleeding from extraction site(s) or lump area?
Lump soft or hard?
Lump tender?
Lump inside your mouth or near your ear on outside?
How big is 'massive'?
Medical issues?

My best advice is get back to the extracting dentist and have the situation assessed there.

i had wisdom teeth extraction. my gums on the top and bottom jawline are really itchy and irritated and it's away from the extraction sites. it's been going on for about 4 days now. there is no swelling or change of colour.

Itchy Gingiva: Your surgical sites are healing and may feel "itchy". In addition, if you haven't been brushing your teeth adequately in these areas due to the wounds they might be slightly inflamed. Once the areas heal and you can brush and floss thoroughly, your issues should resolve on their own. If not, please see your oral surgeon or dentist.

See your dentist: Tooth extraction is a surgical procedure and is not completely risk-free. Pain, swelling and infection following surgery is usually at its worst 24 – 48 hours after surgery. After that it should subside more and more every day and after 7 days stop. Pain after 7 days is a serious issue. See your dentist/surgeon for post-op appointment and treatment. Take care.

Angled or tilted teeth, no. of roots and curvature of roots may require sectioning of the roots resulting in more pain and swelling.

Likely aspirin, etc.: Probably the best thing for now is simple pain meds, like aspirin, tylenol, (acetaminophen) od advil.  If this persists, you might have to go back to your dentist and/or see your doctor to make sure it is not something worse, like infection.

Swelling: Using ice 20 min on and 20 min off for the first three days after removal and sleeping at 45 degrees (four firm pillows) for the first three days helps prevent any swelling. Swelling should last about a week or less if it occurs.
