Surgical Extractions: Surgical extractions often require a gingival flap and bone removal to gain access to the tooth. Together with the area being inflamed and possibly infected, it is to be expected that healing can take a number of days to over a week. Not uncommon: You're only 5.4 days out from what you describe as difficult surgery. Swelling not uncommon, especially if there was infection present prior to surgery. The Dentist or Oral Surgeon who did the extractions is responsible for your post-surgical care. Contact him/her for a fossil-up visit to assure that healing is uncomplicated.
