Hyperthyroid Pre-op?: This depends on each individual, but some surgeons like to wait 6 weeks before drawing a tsh.  Free T4 and T3 (liothyronine) should also be checked & used to calibrate your replacement therapy.  Most surgeons place patients on a baseline amount of levothyroxine immediately post-op. A simple calculated regression equation taking into account age, weight (levothyroxine dose= bodyweight - age + 125) good predictor.

Thyroid dosage: There are several possibilities. First, are you taking your pills daily?  On an empty stomach?  Food and hot liquids can affect absorption.  Different brands of thyroid can absorb differently.  Presumably you are on levothyroxine (and not some combo).  Finally, you still may have some residual thyroid tissue which is growing back.

No: As long as you are on the correct dose of thyroid hormone, so that your TSH is in the lower range of normal (or mildly low), it should not affect your ability to lose weight.  If you had a weight problem before surgery, you will have the same weight problem afterwards.  To lose weight you need to decrease calore intake and increase your level of exercise.

we discussed this because my t4 sometimes is off and i have been fatigue. is there any side effects i will feel with the change.  thyroidectomy. nervous?

Relax: The two meds are the same thing at the same dose. One may be labeled differently or be a generic. It is confusing why you think your meds were really changed. Please clarify this with your doc.

Burning mouth Syndro: Moderate to severe burning in the mouth is the main symptom of BMS and can persist for months or years. 
Other symptoms of BMS include:  tingling or numbness on the tip of the tongue or in the mouth. bitter or metallic changes in taste. or dry or sore mouth.

Could be due to thyroid hormone level.  Discuss with your doctor.

It depends.: It depends on the size of the tumor. Most surgeons agree that total thyroidectomy is preferable, although there are dissenters. This allows treatment with radioactive iodine and gives us the ability to follow a marker in the blood, thyroglobulin. For very small tumors, observation alone is an option.

Your low: thyroid levels are much more likely due to your prior thyroid surgery. Check w/your doctor and begin BRAND NAME T4 replacement up to a level that normalizes your lab values.

: Tremor is a typical symptom of hyperthyroidism but twitching is not a common manifestation of this condition. If your symptom persists with a reduced dose of T4, other etiologies of twitching should be considered.

Thyroid and weight: Appropriate treatment soon after thyroidectomy (surgical removal of the thyroid) should include thyroid hormone replacement.  This should provide adequate amount of thyroid hormone so that there should be no impact on weight.
