Possibly: Although zyprexa is more notorious for causing weight gain than abilify, (aripiprazole) the switch might not provide much relief from this adverse effect. Abilify (aripiprazole) can cause increased appetite and weight gain, too. Abilify (aripiprazole) is as likely to cause sedation and drowsiness as it is to cause insomnia. I cannot predict the predominant effect which may prevail if you take it. Akathisia may result from Abilify (aripiprazole) as well.

when i stopped abilify i was losing the weight i put on, but this didnt happen after stopping zyprexa. why?

: Everyone responds to different medications differently and the side effects you experience with one med may not be the same side effects you experience with a different med. It is possible the Zyprexa did not cause you weight gain so stopping it would not lead to weight loss. If you need to lose weight, your doctor can help with that. Good luck to you!

i was taking zyprexa for 1 year.6 months after i stopped it had a 2nd maniac episode.now i am taking abilify (aripiprazole) for a year.can i cut it without a 3rd ep.?

Maintenance Rx: It sounds like you are being treated for bipolar disorder, a chronic and serious but treatable mental illness. I suggest you forge a relationship with your treating psychiatrist and trust their recommendations regarding your medications rather than making unilateral and possibly harmful decisions. Maintenance treatment is recommended even in the absence of active symptoms.

No: Similar type medications, doesn't make much sense to be taking both together. This increases risks of side effects and problems.

Akathesia is a: Fairly common side effect from abilify (aripiprazole). Luckily it can be treated with medications like Cogentin or benadryl. No promises of waking up early on either medication but most of my patients sleep well on Abilify (aripiprazole) and are not groggy in the morning.

: Weight = calories eaten/drank -calories burned.  Use the app Cronometer to see what you are eating and burning and the reason for weight gain will be clear. Almost always more calories goin in than

being burned.

Differences: between &quot;general&quot; response and specific individual response must be considered.  Each person is different.  Not everyone gets activated on Abilify (aripiprazole).  You need to let your doctor know so he/she can recommend next step for you accordingly.

About the same.: Both Abilify (aripiprazole) and zyprexa can cause akathisia and inner restlessness. In my practice, more people seem to have more akathisia with Abilify (aripiprazole) although in both drugs, they are dose dependent.

i am diabetic refuse to use seroquil or zyprexa  abilify..dr started mr on 20 latuda (lurasidone) ..is this a good choice or basically the same old same old ?

Could be: Latuda (lurasidone) is a relatively new medication that is often used in treating bipolar disorder or in augmenting the effects of other antidepressants.  As with all medications, how it,works for you may be different than how it works for others.  One benefit is that it is weight neutral.  With your diabetes, zyprexa is not an option.  It is also not sedating like seroquil.  Give it a try.
