BACK TO NORMAL: Ondansetron (Zofran) primarily blocks potassium channels, prolonging the QT interval, but these changes are acute, transient and reversible. Concern was for IV formulation in doses higher than 16 mg.

Ondansetron: Zofran (ondansetron) in doses greater than 16 mg at a time has been implicated in prolonging the qt interval.  This effect would last for a few hours while the drug was in the system.  A single 4 mg dose does not carry this risk.

Zofran (ondansetron) for nausea: If you stop a medicine for nausea, most likely you will experience a rebound effect after stopping the medication. Zofran (ondansetron) does not produce tolerance, therefore there will be not discontinuation syndrome or physical withdrawal if not taken anymore. Hopefully the cause for the nausea has disappeared and stopping zofran (ondansetron) will not cause any problems.

i've been taking zofran for about 2 years because lexapro (escitalopram) makes me sick. can i stop zofran or do i have to taper off? 4mg 2x's a day. how do i taper?

Anti-depression?: When Zofran (ondansetron) is prescribed for nausea, if the original problem still exists - stopping may bring a rebound. Other than that, it does not have withdrawal issues so you need not taer. Still, please consider telling the Dr who prescribed it and work together on this. They'd maybe be happy to hear you no longer feel like you need it.

Buspar/clearance: Under ordinary circumstances, the Buspirone should clear in 12-24 hrs, although traces could be detected in urine (if we could test). I don't believe there would be any interference if you are or not on Zofran (ondansetron).

took zofran (ondansetron) and had temp blurred vision but it went away. what usually causes the blurred vision, and if it went away and i stop meds, should i worry?

Possible drug effect: While blurred vision is not a listed side effect of Zofran (ondansetron), (ondansetron) uncommon side-effects can occur with any medicine.  The fact that the blurred vision went away when you stopped the drug suggests that the drug caused it.  The only way to prove that would be to restart Zofran (ondansetron) and see if it recurs.  The best recommendation is to avoid Zofran (ondansetron) altogether.

Great medicine: Zofran (ondansetron) is very safe works sensually, meaning via the central nervous system, and works on as far as I know, all types of nausea.  Nausea that persists should be evaluated for other diseases that may be more serious than a simple minor gastrointestinal virus

Rare/simple to tell: A simple rhythm strip (part of EKG) in the office while on the meds can identify any such effect on you. The change is either there or not, it doesn't just swoop in unexpected after having no prior effect.  If you benefit from the meds and there is no documented prolongation, why stop.
