Do easiest first.: There is a whole host of possible reasons why you are experiencing foot pain and swelling. Without question,  improperly fitting shoes is a distinct possibility and at the top of the list. Why not test your theory and stop wearing your dress shoes for a while. I have a feeling that relief is at hand.

Gout?: You may be describing gout, although usually there is some swelling with gout. For a precise diagnosis you must see a physician as there are many possible causes for foot pain.

See below: The best thing to do is to keep weight off the area of the foot.  May want to try an orthotic with a cut out pad to stop the sesamoid from hitting the ground.

Foot pain: Random pain and redness in the feet is often from a shoe problem and related to exercise, work and posture.  If shoes are good fit and problem recurs then seed a medical exam to rule out a problem.

Stump neuroma: If the neuroma has not been removed, than this may be a return of the neuroma.  If the neuroma was removed surgically, than you may have developed a stump neuroma, which is an irritation of the previous nerve that will act like a regular neuroma.  See your podiatrist for treatment and evaluation of this condition.

Other treatments.: Foot pain secondary to back problems is common. The medication you are on would not be the first treatment of choice, so I'm assuming you have had other treatments. If not, perhaps a second opinion is in order.

Depends: The area over the bunion is where gout occurs usually.However some individuals can pain from the bunions themselves with it being inflammed such as from arthritis etc.If there is no Gout then would ice the area and take ibuprofen if there is no contraindication.Surgery is last resort and takes months to recover from.See a primary md or a Podiatrist for more definitive therapy.

See doctor: See a doctor or podiatrist to make sure you dont have a stress fracture or other pathology.
