Foot pain: Random pain and redness in the feet is often from a shoe problem and related to exercise, work and posture. If shoes are good fit and problem recurs then seed a medical exam to rule out a problem.

??Gout/??infection: Sounds more like "gout" a condition where you have uric acid building up in the joints mostly in the feet. Infection less likely. Usually Motrin gives relief. If you have fever and if this is infection you need to be evaluated as soon as possible.

Possible gout: It's impossible to make a good diagnosis based on limited history and no examination, but based on your description, my first thought would be gout.
