Quite Painful : It is quite painful and can cause disturbances in your ability to walk for a while. It's also necessary to stay in the hospital for at least a day following surgery. The good thing is that it is almost never necessary any more. If you would like a referral, i know a brilliant implant surgeon in your city who can help you or at least do a second opinion. His consultations are free for implants!

Probably not: Your exact repair is not entirely clear from your message however in general only months after repair the bones is as strong or stronger than it was prior, unless you had abnormal healing.  You should double check with your orthopedist to find out if they had any such concerns,  usually you should also have physical therapy that would have stipulated weight bearing.  Be well

Varies: The type and duration of antibiotics needed is based upon the type of bacteria involved and it's relative sensativity to various antibiotics as well as the extent of the infection as well.  If there is any question, the assistance of an infectious disease specialist can be helpful.  Sometimes, further surgery is required.

Cure not guaranteed: that is unfortunate. Even the best done surgical procedure does not always guarantee perfect results. They will likely present you options such as a vascularized bone graft &amp; revision of the same procedure. Sometimes a partial wrist fusion with scaphoid excision is required. Always seek a second opinion, especially in a situation like this, from a tertiary care center wrist specialist for help.

Not likely : Most likely not a problem. Normally after 4 weeks the graft is already covered with soft tissue &amp;#40; gum&amp;#41; and touching the area should have no adverse effects. Hope that helps

Accepted Answer

Bone grafts: It is what it is. Bone integration takes the body 4-6 months at least for enough integration to minimize chance of failure. Bone grafting around implant takes less but sufficient time needed. Other conditions such as irreversible inflammation of nerve of tooth, decay just don't take as long. Other procedures such as RCT or crowns take 1-2 visits generally. See comment below:
