: High intensity exercise will not be recommended, rather gradual until your anemia is properly worked up and treated. Once your anemia is resolved you can definitely returned to high intensity exercise.

why do patients with severe anemia may be  compromised if transfused with large quantities of long stored blood?

Ask your doctor: I am not too concerned about using old blood as there is no serious complication due to use of long stored blood. Ask your doctor why you needed the blood transfusion...That is much more important to find out and treating the cause.

i have just been diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and i have severe anemia where i just had a blood transfusion, will my liver heal or get worse?

Unfortunately: Cirrhosis is unlikely to improve, this usually suggest some degree of permanent damage.  Your best bet is to optimize your health, including addressing the possible cause of your cirrhosis, so that you can keep things stable.  Review this with your hepatologist(liver doc) so that you start moving in the right direction.

i have mets to my bones. i've got severe anemia from it. my hemoglobin is 7.7. my dr just gave me my first shot of aranesp. they won't give a transfusion until my hemoglobin is under 7. does aranesp work and when? no strength to walk?

Accepted Answer

: Aranesp works by stimulating your bone marrow to produce more red cells. If it is effective it will take time, at least a month or more before your Hb is up. Aranesp works the best for chronic kidney disease related anemia, not quite effective in certain types of cancer and Aranesp is sometimes contraindicated in cases of solid cancer. You will likely need blood transfusion. Please take care.

Look elsewhere: Sickle trait would not account for a hemoglobin of 6. There's another cause.

Severe anemia: One can die from severe anemia from massive acute bleeding  due to hypoxia - decrease oxygenation to vitals organ that resulting in organ failure . When  anemia iis a slow ongoing/chronic  process- our body can compensate. When it is severe enough- enlargement of the heart /cardiomegaly and congestive heart failure can happen. Kidney failre and death can happen in severe hemolytic anemia.

Moderate: Moderate anemia. Next steps will include comparing it with previous values and iron studies in order to understand if it is caused by iron deficiency. Based on results, further work up will be formulated by your PCP.

Dark greens: Worked for popeye. Spinach and other dark greens are good natural sources of iron. Red meat obviously, but harder to eat in quantity. Nothing unreasonable about using supplements & vitamins when you are coming from behind.

Depends on cause: Anemia is a symptom like fever, and the underlying cause needed to be treated. You should see  your primary care provider for an evaluation.
 You may take oral iron and multivitamin supplements while trying to make an appointment.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.
