noticed both tonsils are somewhat swollen/large-ish. no pain. both tonsils (and the palatopharyngeal arches?) are reddish. ive never paid attention to this area. i do have bad seasonal allergies with drainage. is this normal or due to my allergies?

: It is certainly possible that they have always looked this way, if you haven’t particularly looked before and your doctor has never mentioned an abnormality. Allergies can irritate the area, so that may be the reason if this is a change from other seasons. Please have your doctor take a look. If you don’t have pus, pain, or fever and it’s both tonsils, it is unlikely to be something serious.

Accepted Answer

Possible: If you have other allergic conditions such as hay fever and the tonsil swells up during the peak allergy season, then the answer is yes.  On the other hand, if the swelling is progressive or perennial, then one needs to consider other causes as well and an ENT evaluation may be needed.

Unlikely: It is common to see children with chronic nasal congestion have enlarged tonsils and adenoids, some of them have allergies too, but one usually does not lead to the other.

what does it mean if one tonsils swollen? its been that way for a few days no pain or sore throat. a little bit of coughing. i do have seasonal allergies but theyre not bothering me right now. no fever. havent been sick. any idea? redness as well?

: If you have not looked at them before they may just be big or appear big to you. They are normally red.  Otherwise have someone take a look if worried or sick. Google tonsils and look at images. Finding one that looks like yours is a good start.

Unusual: Swollen lips or angioedema is rarely caused by seasonal allergy but can occur. There are many other causes and a thorough evaluation is needed.

Accepted Answer

Somewhat: Many allergens can make the lips swell, it is often difficult to determine what it is.  It is called angioedema.  Front line treatment is usually antihistamines, benedryl for immediate help or zyrtec (cetirizine) for preventative measures.  Ice packs can reduce it.  You can be treated with Prednisone or ace inhibitors as well (blood pressure meds). Most dentists would be able to help or allergy md better.

my eyes feel swollen.. theres no redness there not itchy i feel like i need to cry.. also the back of my head hurts i hit the side of my head yesterday getting into the car.. related? i do have seasonal allergies

Accepted Answer

Allergies: Allergies can cause watering of eyes. I don't think the head injury is related. You could try taking an antihistamine for relief. I favor a nonsedating antihistamine like claritin, especially in view of the head injury.

The : The swollen lips are not likely due to salmon you ate the night before. It is called angioedema. There are many causes of angioedema.

Food allergy reactions usually occur within 2 hours of eating.

With your history of two episodes of anaphylaxis, you may want to see an allergist in your area to evaluate of the nature of the angioedema.

Yes: If your eyes are just tired, this may not be from an allergic reaction.  Allergy to molds can cause itchy and watery eyes and occasionally generalized itchy hives.

Accepted Answer

See allergist: The answer is yes.  In fact you may have a condition known as Eosinophilic esophagitis which can lead to scarring and obstruction to passage of food.   Seasonal occurrence has been reported and attributed to pollen allergy (usually it is from food).  You need to consult an allergist ASAP. In the meanwhile , eliminate dairy from your diet and see if this helps.
