i am flying for the first time, is it okay to take sudafed with afrin (oxymetazoline)? if so how soon should i use booth before the plane takes off and lands?

Accepted Answer

No: Both medications are considered decongestants, so you only want to take one or the other, not both.  If you take the sudafed, i would take it about 30 minutes prior to flying.  If you use the afrin, (oxymetazoline) it tends to start working fairly quickly, so 5-10 minutes prior to flying should be adequate.

i took sudafed, flonase and afrin (oxymetazoline) but getting no relief for allergy congestion, can i take claritin on top of the other meds?

Afrin (oxymetazoline)?: You need to see an expert to determine the cause of the congestion and confirm that it is related to allergy.  If you have been taking Afrin (oxymetazoline) for more than 5 days consecutively, then the persistent congestion is most likely now caused by the Afrin (oxymetazoline) (it causes sensitization and "rebound congestion"). Claritin can be added safely, but it may not be effective if underlying issue not addressed

i have eustachian tube dysfunction & am taking sudafed and afrin (oxymetazoline). how long will it take to clear up and when will the ringing in ears take to clear up?

Depends: Eustachian tube dysfunction can been sudden related to swimming or other pressure related changes or related chronic problems related to allergy.  If you have been on those meds for over a week, you may need something stronger, so see a physician or an ENT doctor.

i still get a stuffy nose , i have used flonase, sudafed, claritin, saline spray, i have been off  afrin (oxymetazoline) for over a month  now, what else can i do?

See your doctor: There are a couple of other medications he can try. If these do not work you may need to see an allergist for allergy testing.

will afrin (oxymetazoline) nose spray work as well as sudafed po with less risk of increased heart rate for opening up my sinuses and eustachian tubes?

Afrin (oxymetazoline): Is useful but you can only use for 3 days, otherwise you will develop rebound congestion. You can also try using a sinus rinse with a netti pot  or ask your doctor about a cortisone nasal spray. Take care!

2 decongestants: Oral and nasal., not recommended  try saline nasal spray to loosen congestion.

Yes: Just don't use afrin (oxymetazoline) for more than 5 days or you may end up in worse shape. Sudafed works just well or better than any other otc decongestant.

on day5 of a nasty cold. cannot breathe out of my nose at all, smell or taste! lots of pressure in head & ears. sudafed & afrin not helping. any sugg?

Cold: I would head to an urgent care center or depending on the state you reside in, attempt a consult with one of the docs for medication. Till then continue the over the counter meds, nasal wash, etc.

can i fly from co to fl with an ear infection thats been blocked for over a week? im on antibiotic for ear and pneumonia. pneumonia has cleared but ear wont release congestion. im starting afrin and sudafed pe today. i hope to fly home saturday?

Accepted Answer

: I would fly if you need to. You can retain fluid in this site for weeks after the germs are killed off. The presence of fluid in the middle ear space should not bother you at all, or place you at risk.
