Nerve pressure: I would like to know if the numbness is on one side of the toe or the other.  It is over the top or tip of your toe?  More than likely it is pressure on the nerves that run up the side of your toe from the other toe.
Try separating the two toes with something soft like a cotton ball and see if the numbness resolves.
If the toe is red or swollen have it checked out ny a Podiatrist.

It may take several months to resolve if you get rid of the pressure on the nerve. If it doesn't improve after a month, have it checked out by a Podiatrist.

S1 nerve irritation: Can be caused by high heeled shoes which are too tight. Nubness on the outside foot and small toe can also be caused by irritation of the S1 nerve root, sometimes by a disc protrusion at L5-S1 which can give back pain, or leg pain or both.
