Nerve pain: Very often the nerve on the top of the foot is injured. Shoes can compress the nerve and cause. Remove all pressure and give it a few days. If it persists see your podiatrist.

Few possibilities: If shoes are too small can create a problem, a tarsal tunnel, a radiculopathy from the back or a systemic disease like diabetes all could cause this problem. Pays to have it checked out.
