Yes and yes: Sounds like the surg was recently. It's not uncommon to feel bony edges of the socket or jaw next to where the tooth was for 2 months or so

When comfortable.: You can have the root canal completed when ever you a comfortable holding open for the time needed for the procedure.

Not to Worry: Depending on when your surgery was, a cellulitis is a firm swelling in soft tissue and can be a prelim to abcess (infection) . If the ext. was a while ago a lump like you're talking about can just be left over from the incision and flap made to get to the wisdom tooth and generally will resolve on its own. Never hurts to have the surgeon take a peek just to ease your mind! Cellulitis hurts usually

You have to: believe what your doctor told you , wait few more days for the swelling to go dow, and go for a follow up visit.  IF you are not satisfied look for  a second  opinion , even your own doctor will help to get one if you want it.

OTC meds then exam: Assuming your stomach is ok with ibuprofen, take 3  then 3 hours later take 2 Acetaminophen being careful to not exceed the updated maximum daily allowance for either med. While continuing to alternate these every 3 hours. That should help until tomorrow when you should be able to get evaluated and hopefully treated by a local dentist.

Until removal: Keep it as clean as possible with proper brushing and flossing. If it is sore or swollen salt water rinses may help- (teaspoon salt in glass of warm water) - 3 to 4 times per day.

Cholesteatoma: Cholesteatoma is a type of skin cyst located in the middle ear and mastoid bone in your skull. Neither structure is near your impacted wisdom tooth. It's pretty safe to say you should call an oral surgeon for an appointment... if you are in a lot of pain and swollen, the tooth probably has to be extracted.

Leave it alone: I have the same problem and I am just letting it stay like it is. Just read an article about unnecessary removal of wisdom teeth and fairly frequent minor and major consequences associated with that. So, just let it be there. Try to brush and floss it as well as you can, as they tend to rot easier than other teeth due to poor accessibility. I am getting there, though.
