Needs evaluation..: This could be a draining fistula from an abscess, either coming from a periodontal problem or endodontic problem. The root may be fractured, too. So hard to know for sure without an examination. Please call a local dentist for an exam and treatment.

Hmmm: Not sure what you were doing and why. Not even sure a piece of your nail is actually stuck underneath the gums. Perhaps you just irritated it. I suggest you see a local dentist to resolve this issue if normal tooth brushing and flossing (along with some salt water rinses) doesn't heal the area withing a few days.

Bone: The tooth is held in your jaw by bone not gum. The gum protects the bone. If all that is damaged is gum, the gum will heal to a greater or lesser extent. With an injury like the one you have suffered you should be seen by a dentist for further evaluation.

my front tooth is rotting. now, little bits have started to chip and half of the tooth has turned brown down to the gum with a sharp edge in the middle front of the tooth. what should i do?

Seek treatment: This discoloration is most likely tooth decay and is most likely into the pulp or nerve of the tooth.  Make an appointment with a dentist for an x-ray and appropriate treatment.  Which may include root canal therapy and crown or extraction.  If the decay is not in the nerve it may require a large filling or crown.  This can lead to infection so treat as soon as possible.

Perio evalution: See your local dentist to determine the cause and how best to prevent and/or minimize further recession.  It is usually related to poor oral hygiene, poor or inadequate brushing and flossing techniques, stress, malocclusion, and para-functional habits. At your age it is easily remedied with your cooperation.

Depends: Depends on its appearance and location. If it is above the tissue immediately bordering the teeth which is firmly attached to the bone , then it is in the mucosa which is moveable. If this is the case, then it likely is a blood vessel (vein) showing through the tissue. If it is on the firm tissue then it may be pigmentation and can be normal. Best to see the Dentist to be sure. Time: Should heal in a few days.  In the meantime keep area clean (brush and floss), rinse 3x/day w 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water, take analgesics if necessary.  If it doesn't heal, see your dentist.

Sure, but: At age 28 - you should try to maintain your teeth well and try to keep them for your lifetime.  It may be too late to save this tooth, but routine dentistry is an inexpensive way to help prolong your life as studies have shown the people with teeth live longer than those without.   You do not want to get dentures!

Gum swelling?: Hello, without seeing a picture of how your gums look I would guess that you got something stuck inside your gums.  If you get bleeding now when you floss then it's very likely something is lodged underneath.  You can gently floss again now to see if you can dislodge anything or try to rinse with salt water focusing on the front area.  See a dentist if there is no improvement in a day or so.

hi. i have a crown on front tooth but metal rim is now visible after years as gums recede. would you recommend a totally white porcelain one as this i?

Yes! However....: I think an all porcelain crown would solve the problem of showing the metal margin. You should also make sure the receding gums are not indicative of periodontal disease. Have the dentist check probing depths in the area of this tooth.
