Seek treatment: This discoloration is most likely tooth decay and is most likely into the pulp or nerve of the tooth. Make an appointment with a dentist for an x-ray and appropriate treatment. Which may include root canal therapy and crown or extraction. If the decay is not in the nerve it may require a large filling or crown. This can lead to infection so treat as soon as possible.

Tooth Decay: Most likely you have a large cavity in the front tooth. Make an appointment with a dentist asap. The tooth is turning brown because plaque is accumulating behind the face surface and not allowing the light to go through the tooth.

Time for a checkup!: From what you describe, your tooth has been decaying for some time now. You are probably way overdue for a dental checkup. See a dentist for a complete and thorough exam, along with whatever x-rays are appropriate and get all your dental work done. Waiting just results in more pain, aggravation, less teeth and more cost.
