Infection: Could be a middle ear infection which is sitting on the one side and pain radiating to that side. If you have fever and significant pain when swallowing you may want to see dr. Likely just viral but rule out bacterial which needs antibiotics.

Reactive lymph node?: Do you have problems with your scalp? It looks like it is lymph node in response to some infection in your head and neck area. It is a sign of response of your immune system fighting the infection and the pain is because of the inflammation. It is likely to pass away by itself as the lymph node would disband after successfully fighting the infection.

May be severe Neck strain w Muscle spasm due to posture/ activity. More important is the BP and possible bleeding from aneurysm or trauma. Check BP first, then see MD for proper Diagnosis &amp; management.

Lump: A physician would have to examine you to be sure, but this could be a cyst, ingrown hair, enlarged lymph node, early boil. See your physician as needed if it doesn't recede or becomes painful or tender or if other lumps appear.

?nodes: These may be enlarged lymph nodes in the posterior neck chains. In the absence of other symptoms like a rash in the neck or scalp, or viral like syndrome, we would simply recheck these in a week to see if they're receding or enlarging  or whether new nodes have appeared. In case of the latter, your MD would order appropriate tests which could include a biopsy.

NSAIDS, ice, heat...: Pain, stiffness, and inflammation can be relieved  with over-the-counter medications like advil or aleve (naproxen). Follow directions on label. Ice for about 45 minutes will address inflammation and swelling, never apply ice to the skin, always over a towel or clothing. Follow this by heat for about 20 to 25 minutes to help soothe and relax tight muscles. Gentle range of motion and stretching exercises.

Facet, disc,nerve: You may have irritated a higher cervical facet joint. Less likely you could have a cervical nerve root irritation or an occipital nerve irritation. Try gentle heating pads, ice, range of motion of your head and neck, gentle stretching, and go see your doctor to see if physiotherapy, medications like antiinflammatories, anti-spasmodics, nerve medications or injections may help you.
