hi, i have a candida infection under my armpit that was unresponsive to cortisone treatment. what can i get over the counter now that i am on holiday?

Fungal cream.: Cortisone does not treat fungal infections, and, in fact,can make them much worse. If you use an over the counter fungal med (Like lotrimin (clotrimazole) or nystatin) and the rash does not get better, see a doc for evaluation.  Also avoid fragrances and harsh soaps which cause skin irritation and will add to your problem.  Avoid animal products with antibiotics used in their feed, as well.

Hard to say: Since I have no idea what might be available otc in a foreign country, I can't give you a name. Candida will never respond to hydrocortizone, and may actually like it. Look for an anti-fungal.Here we have micotin or lotrazone   OTC that have some anti-fungal activity.

Unusual: I'm not sure, in 30 years never had these symptoms. Maybe an allergy to the medication. Don't take it again until you find out.

Yes: Best used for persistent cradle cap , eczema, or bug bites.  Do not use for ringworm.

Allergy: You could be sensitive to ingredients in particular cortisone product that are used as base or preservatives. An ointment base is no allergenic. You can safely use aquaphor. If you see dermatologist you may need prescription for brand to avoid chemicals found in generic creams.

i have a torn subscapularis tendon and it is quite painful. otc meds haven't worked, and neither has the cortisone injection or pt. what should i do?

You might need: a surgical repair.  If you do not treat you ight get a frozen shoulder, less painful but more disabling

i have rash on both my hands, just the inside part of it. i have used cortisone 1% otc product but it is still prevalent. it is non-itch. any thoughts?

Rashes: Have to be evaluated clinically in the context of comorbidities and current medication. While they affect skin, many times they appear in the context of systemic diseases and not connecting them properly will result in missing or postponing the true diagnosis. Talk to your doc who has the best view on your overall medical situation about your rash.

Be sure of diagnosis: Unless you are an overhead athlete ( pitcher or tennis, etc.) full - thickness rotator cuff tears in your age are very unusual. More commonly seen are shoulders w/ a component of instability and secondary rotator cuff tendinitis/partial thickness injuries and/or biceps anchor injuries'SLAP' tears . See an experienced ORS w/ subspecialty training in shoulder / sports before you have surgery . GL!

recently diagnosed with sebhorric dermatitis. it's being treated, but my  eyelids won't get better. using otc cortisone per my doc. any other  ideas?

Lid hygiene : You may also have seborrheic blepharitis which requires ophthalmic treatment. Don't use otc corticosteroid ointment on your eyelashes. An ophthalmologist will describe a treatment regimen consisting of warm compresses, gentle massage with dilute baby shampoo, and occasionally an eye ointment, either antibiotic or antibiotic/steroid combo application to eyelids. In advanced cases, oral antibiotics.

merry christmas doctors. for seborrheic dermatitis, should cortisone cream otc be good enough, or should i see a dermatologist for a rx? also.. cortisone cream with aloe better or just by itself (or with something else)????

Dermatologist: I recommend consulting a dermatologist for diagnosis, appropriate treatment and follow-up of the seborrheic dermatitis. In the meantime you could try applying low dose cortisone ointment, but avoid too much application on the face itself. If you feel there is significant inflammation, use the preparation with soothing aloe.
