why isn't my old wrist fracture on the x-ray?

Accepted Answer

Complete healing: Evidence of previous fracture may not be visible for various reasons.  If you were very young and your growth plates (epiphyses) were open and the fracture was in this area it would be natural that healed fracture was not visible. Also if the fracture was a non-displaced fracture, broke but not out of alignment, then this too might not show once healed. Regardless of reason this is a good thing.

Sometimes: If the fracture has not healed properly it can be detected on x-ray.  Sometimes a well healed fracture can show signs where it occurred.

Accepted Answer

Could be a problem: If the surgeon felt this was new bowing that could be due to too much stress on the rod. That would be very unusual with modern rods as they are very strong...Especially to see as early as 8 weeks. If it is just on an x-ray report you need to talk to your orthopedist as it us likely nothing. Most rods are normally bowed and may bow slightly more after being inserted.

Read below: Following injury to the elbow in children it is common to have the elbow not fully extend.  This can occur from sprains, bone bruises, or small fractures that aren't always easy to see initially on an x-ray.  If they are not better in one week should be taken back for an evaluation and new x-rays.

No: Ankle fractures typically require 6 weeks for healing to occur.  Very few fractures require only 10 days in a NWB boot.

: Routine x-rays today have a fraction of the dosage used decades ago when first available. A simple set of x-rays at that age poses no significant risk. Neither Covid or other infections make a difference in the radiation effect.

i am 50 years old lady and fallen from running train and i got hurt on left side of hip but in x-ray there is no fracture too much pain unable to walk?

Pain is bad sign: If you have that much pain in your hip joint
to me of two things.
1-you have bad injury  did not effect the bone and you have to give time to heal.
2-you have but not seen on the x-ray, check with doctor he run MRI on the hip to find out.

how do i maximise growth? i am 21 years old (male) and recently got a x-ray of my wrist after a fracture. i found out that my growth plates are still open. what could i do to ensure some more linear growth at this age? im almost as tall as my dad?

: Hight is genetically determined. Short of ensuring that you have good nutrition and adequate sleep, there’s nothing you can do to affect your eventual height. Learn to enjoy whatever height you are! Good luck.

3 to 4 weeks: It usually takes 3, 4 even 6 weeks in some cases.
