A member asked:

My 18 month old had to get an x-ray of her arm to check for fracture after fall. could x-ray at this young age expose her to too much radiation?

Routine x-rays today have a fraction of the dosage used decades ago when first available. A simple set of x-rays at that age poses no significant risk. Neither Covid or other infections make a difference in the radiation effect.

The x ray has relatively low exposure and risk. The report may be reviewed with your pediatrician. The fall may be associated with soft tissue injury which may result in pain. Watch for signs of pain, swelling, redness and reduced use of the arm. Please follow up and a virtual consultation with Healthtap is available.
