i'm taking nexium (esomeprazole) and bentyl (dicyclomine). i see a small rash/hives on forehead but nowhere else on body, no other signs. how likely is this allergy?

Unlikely: If the rash is localized it is more likely something you came in contact with. If the rash becomes more widespread or if you develop any swelling, particularly in your throat or have problems breathing, be assessed. If necessary call emergency transport. All the best.

i am taking esomeprazole and have a rast blood test for nasal allergies will it interfere with blood test? my ent never mentioned he knew i took it

No: Most drugs you take would not affect the RAST test. By the way, RAST is outdated and has been replaced by ImmunoCap IgE.

can you have acid regurgitate without heart burn with gerd flare up. no signs of a cold, just bringing up white sour phlegm. diagnosed with gerd 4 years ago, tried nexium but never helped. reflux left on its own. now had anxiety, got pantazol?

Yes you can...: You can definitely have acid reflux or regurgitation without heartburn symptoms. Medications like Nexium (esomeprazole) may or may not work depending on the strength and frequency that you are taking. Certain foods can cause these symptoms (i.e. caffeine, spicy foods, fatty foods, large meals, alcohol) as well as smoking tobacco. The other issue may be a hiatal hernia which you may discuss with your primary doc

barrets esophagus.doc said he thinks pathologist over read b/c he sees no signs of it... can it be reversed with nexium (esomeprazole)? he gave me 40mg 2xday

Possibly: High dose PPI's can prevent progression of Barrett's Esophagus to Cancer, and possibly reverse abnormal cellular changes in esophageal tissue.  It is also possible that your GI i correct that Path over-read biopsy.

Powerful Antacids: When Prilosec went generic the company that made Prilosec came out with the "new and improved" nexium (esomeprazole). The reality is that pharmaceutical companies commony tout their new meds as better than the older ones (sometimes they are). In this case it depends on the individual. I personally am not a big fan of this class of meds for many reasons. But to answer your question not a big difference.

Accepted Answer

Thickening feeds: Some infants reflux less if you add formula powder to their feeds &amp; prop them upright after feeding. However, the nexium just slows the acid production in the stomach &amp; lessens the pain when it happens. There is no "natural" alternative med that I am aware of that can do this.

Scope or not to scop: Nexium is not a cure; it's there only to reduce the problem of acidity. Your doctor should probably refer you to a gastroenterologist at this time to get an upper scope. Then again, that's my opinion. If you have an ulcer, nexium helps with healing, but won't cure the ulcer. I guess if you have chronic gastritis, is because you were scoped already?

my doctor changed my nexium (esomeprazole) 40mg dose to twice a day. is this safe? i just feel like that's a bit much.

?diagnosis: Depending on the severity of your symptoms and your diagnosis, the rx Nexium (esomeprazole) may be taken twice daily.  Best to discuss with your rx dr. So s/he knows your concerns and can discuss it with you.  Best wishes.
