Tx. For Shingles: Usually one to two weeks depending on how it is treated. Antiviral medication have been shown to helpful at speeding recovery. Also medications used to treat nerve pain such as lyrica, (pregabalin) Neurontin and several others can be helpful at managing the pain. If your pain continues after the lesions have healed you should be evaluated for a condition called post-herpetic neuralgia.

I agree with you.: Pain medication only "covers up" the pain and does not remove the cause. The cause of the pain needs to be ascertained. Only then can you expect to feel relief. Have you seen a general dentist? An oral surgeon" an ENT specialist? We all want to help you but can't over the internet. If you have seen a doctor, call for further advice, and if you haven't, you will need to see one. Feel better.

Coccygectomy: This really depends on the exact location of the pain. By the location it sounds like this is a muscular pain.

i was on venlafaxine for nerve pain.  300 mg er /day for 12 wks -- 225 mg  for 10 wks -- 150mg for 3 wks -- 75mg er for 4 wks --  37.5 er  for 10 days -- none for 4 days.  i gained 15 lbs!  i want off.  how much longer will dizzies and zaps last??

: Each person is different regarding Side effects. The tapering measures seem reasonable from your prescriber. The zaps may signify LACK of covering agent, since the venlaflaxine has been withdrawn. Call you doc to discuss the return of these sensory issues and whether a different agent would be more helpful in controlling them yet have no side effects. Exercise and diet will assist wt loss.

Varies: In most cases acute pain normally will resolve within a few weeks but sometimes take several months.  If your symptoms persist more than a few weeks then you should see you primary doctor.  Some states allow direct access to physical therapy, so consider going to one if not already being treated.

Unrelated: Occipital nerve pain is a localized disorder caused by either primary irritability of the scalp nerve(like a neuralgia) or impingement at the neck where the nerve exits. Bilateral tingling in the temples would not be anatomically related. The latter also suggests some irritability in the superficial nerves. A neurologist can better evaluate these symptoms if needed.

i have been taking inderal 10mg twice a day for years. last month i was prescribed cymbalta 30 once a day for nerve pain. can i take both?

Yes, with caution:  These medicines can be used together, and often are, but you should be aware that Cymbalta can cause a further lowering of blood pressure. When you first start using it, you should check your blood pressure more frequently, and if it is dropping too much, contact your physician.  Good luck.

See your doctor: 3 weeks of sciatic pain (pain running from your back down your leg) deserves an evaluation.  An MRI is likely in order.

i am having shoulder pain  and nerve pain from last 2-3 weeks& recently i find that one of the portion of my finger is blue. what might be the reason?

Circulation problem?: Get checked ASAP if your finger is turning blue, like today.  If it comes and goes, get checked this week.  Hard to say what is going on, but if you smoke or drink alcohol or use caffeine, stop!  If you have begun any new supplements or over-the-counter meds, stop those too.  Good luck!

can tramazac (tramadol and paracetamol) be taken in conjunction with exinef/arcoxia 120mg for pain? my wife has nerve pain and it has not been 24 hours since the last dose of exinef.

Ok, short term: Yes, Tramadol can be used for short term in combination with Excinef. Longer term use together should be discussed with your physician.
