Varies: In most cases acute pain normally will resolve within a few weeks but sometimes take several months. If your symptoms persist more than a few weeks then you should see you primary doctor. Some states allow direct access to physical therapy, so consider going to one if not already being treated.

If related to a disc: For 75% of people with sciatic pain due to a herniated disc, up to 3 months. 90% are better usually about a year later from the onset of sciatic pain due to a disc herniation treated without surgery.

4-6 weeks: Initially the symptoms last 4-6 weeks and if your body heals like it supposed to then pain relief starts. However disc herniations which are the cause of majority of sciatica symptoms last for 6-9 months and therefore people can have pain during that time as well. If not better after 6 weeks see a spine specialist to evaluate this further.
