i have cervical myelomalacia i wonder if there is neck exercises that can help this is very painful. my doctor will not do surgery?

Cord changes: Myelomalacia refers to changes that have already occurred in the spinal cord. Neck exercise will not change that but it is a good idea to maintain good strength and tone of your neck and arm musculature especially if if there is associated weakness.

Depends: there is a lot to this question.  First of all, I would make sure that you see a neurologist for a complete evaluation before exercising.  You may need an MRI of the neck as well.  Once that is done you can move forward with gentle traction, limited exercise.  I would wear a c collar until you are evaluated.  Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

last september i went to the er for numbness in left arm. they said i either have a pinched nerve or herniated disc in my cervical spine. when i turn my head i can feel the pain radiate down my arm. can feel pain when i do neck exercises. x-ray asap?

: There is no urgency but you should have a MRI done sooner or later. Pain and numbness of the arm are common symptoms of cervical herniated disc or cervical spondylosis. If possible, you should see a spine orthopedist or a neurosurgeon. Neck exercise is still recommended.

Follow instructions.: I am not sure what you mean.  Did you just have the surgery?  You should have been given instructions afterwards about taking care of yourself properly. Talk to your surgeon about any concerns you may have going forward, including activity limitations, pain or numbness you may still have, and fitness program to maximize your functioning.

Varies: Cervical disc surgery is a more general term that describes any surgery performed in the disc in the neck.  An anterior cervical fusion is just one type of cervical disc surgery in which the disc is removed and the adjacent vertebrae are fused together,

hi i just had cervical neck surgery a week and a half ago. how can i clean my incision?   i have some dried blood and would like to clean it.

Post surgery care: Check with your surgery team, and make sure you have a post operative appointment set up. In general washing the area with warm warm and gentle soap is approved. Then use a hairdryer to the area of the incision. If you have redness, drainage, fever or vomiting call your doc right away.

Depends: Recovery in surgery varies from individual to individual. In general nerves repair themselves, if they can 0.5 mm per day. Practically, one year after surgery, you will be at maximum recovery post-surgery.

Typically: You were the brace mostly for comfort  but  instructions vary based on surgery and surgeon. If in doubt call your surgeons office and verify your discharge instructions.

Your : Your low grade fever may be secondary to a separate issue such as a viral illness, urinary tract infection, or other infection. Do you have any other symptoms? If so this points to another issue and should be addressed by your primary care provider. Do you have pain or swelling in your neck? If so contact the doctor that performed your surgery. He/she may want to see you for a follow up.
