Not safe...: Both Ibuprofen and Naproxen are Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID's).  If you are taking one NSAID drug, you should not combine it with another NSAID drug.   You risk having stomach issues and can potentially damage your kidneys.   You should talk with your doctor regarding appropriate use of medications for your condition.

Advil (ibuprofen) + Naproxen: Both of these meds are considered NSAIDS which are notorious for causing GI problems (stomach bleeding),  The maximum dose of Ibuprofen is 3.2 g, and Naproxen 1.5g daily. Do the math. There are other better ways of managing pain than taking same meds-NSAIDs. You need to consult with a doctor that specializes in pain for more information and medication adjustment.

Salsalate?: This drug is a derivative of aspirin, but does not have an effect on prostaglandin formation, and is generally safe for people with intolerance to other nsaids.  It also does not hurt the stomach.  Ask your doctor about it!

Do not do it

Dosing: Both are in the same class of drugs called NSAIDs.  You were almost surely underdosed and that is why you are in  pain. The dose is based on body weight. For Advil (ibuprofen) = Motrin =Ibuprofen you take 10 mg/kg/dose every 8 hours. Easiest way to take every 8 hours is 7 AM, 3 PM, 11 PM. Good luck!

Both affect BP: All NSAID's, including ibuprofen and naproxen, have the potential to increase blood pressure (BP). In most people the change is small but, on occasion, a significant elevation of BP may occur. Consider monitoring your BP (call your MD staff so they can assist you in arranging for you to drop in randomly for 3-6 BP checks over the next several weeks) to see if BP is affected while on a NSAID.

Naproxen: longer elimination half-life (17 hrs) vs ibuprofen (2-4 hrs): Would generally be safe to take ibuprofen 12- 24 hrs after your last naproxen dose.
