Xanax (alprazolam) and other benzodiazepines have been associated with some difficulties in babies, but you were at least past your first trimester when your doctor prescribed the medication.  Please know for the future that there are non-pharmaceutical ways to help anxiety.

: There is little information in the US registry but cautions is advised. A brief exposure is unlikely to produce significant harm but future avoidance is important. About 4% of all pregnancies have an unexpected outcome ranging from prematurity and illness to random birth defects. I would not overthink this brief exposure but maintain a good diet/rest &amp; get prenatal care.

Not likely: It is highly unlikely you hurt the baby, but Canax is category D and should not be taken during pregnancy, so it's good that you've stopped. i have severe anxiety & recently switched from xanax (alprazolam) to klonopin because i'm pregnant (7wks). my psychiatrist advised that it's more gentle. should i be very worried about effects on the baby?

This means that the breast fed infant would likely receive some Xanax (alprazolam) while breast feeding; the benefits of Xanax (alprazolam) must be weighed with these risks  Lexapro is listed as "safety unknown" as it has not been as well studied. Consult your doctor, or seek another opinion for your specific situation.
