Needs follow up: Asymptomatic but persistent neck nodes can be due to chronic sinus or nasal issues, allergies, lymphadenopathy disorders such as castlemans disease, etc. And also sometimes due to lymphomas which are low grade in nature. If there is no satisfactory cause identified over time then evaluation by an infectitous disease or hematology specialist may be of use.

Lymph node: You are young and it is unlikely this is serious. Take your antibiotics. Lymph nodes swell and these are called  reactive lymph nodes. Sometimes these will stay a little bigger. I have a couple on my neck. If the node would have painless swelling and spongy feel then get checked.

i have multiple baby shotty soft moveable lymph nodes i can feel posterior to my sternocleidomastoid muscle. and cervical. doc said they r ok. ?

Probably OK: Without personally evaluating these it is difficult to know what these are.  Lymph nodes help clean up infection for a living and when they are earning their keep they may become mildly enlarged, generally soft, mobile and non-tender.  Suspect your physician is correct.

can lymph nodes swell infrequently ? i've been to the doc for neck swelling and arm pit pain but 4 docs have said they feel no swelling any ideas ?

Yes, and several: Lymph nodes part of our immune defense system for virus, microorganisms & cancer. About 1% of blood plasma (water) which departs arterial-end of capillaries is not picked back up at venous-end, body wide. Lymph vessels return this excess water (& whatever is in the water) from around cells back into the blood stream. Lymph nodes, full of white blood cells, remove items/cells recognized not healthy.

i have some shotty lymph nodes in the low neck area, about 4/5 cm above my collar bone they are symmetrical. they are about 1cm. must i worry?

Lymphnodes : Please get evaluated by a practitioner. If there is concern that these are getting larger then you need a lymph node biopsy to further work this up.

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily: May b from an infection as a uri,  ; they may or may not. If so, they may decrease but not go away.

can lymph nodes remained permanently enlarged following a bad cold? 5 years ago i had a bad chest infection and the lymph nodes in my neck swelled up to 3.5cm and are still that size. fna was clear and doc said they can remain enlarged permanently?

: If the architecture of the lymphnode was changed with fibrosis that may happen also it is possible that recurrent low grade infection or inflammation keeps the lymph node active. However FNA is not 100% the fact that it has not increase and more lymph node formation is reassuring, though there is possibility of mycobacterial infection that may not have been picked up.

Lymphadenopathy: It depends on whether the lymph nodes are symptomatic or not when they're smaller than 1 cm. Persistent (asymptomatic) neck lymphadenopathy is well-described and occurs from repetitive previous infections during childhood leading to hardening of those nodes and if that's the case, ABx aren't needed.

Lymph nodes.: Technically speaking we recommending getting biopsies (excisional) of lymph nodes if they linger with no identifiable reason for more than one month at the most.  That being said, if they’ve been around for one year without change in size/shape/texture/orientation, then they’re probably fine - but technically hard to tell.

why zinnat with clacid?

Check with your doc: Not sure why you are having 2 antibiotics for that, and I think you need to talk to your doctor about it for further explanation
