Yes, mainly duration: Migraine symptoms (aura, pulsating or throbbing headache, sensitivity to light, vomiting, blurred vision) last 24 to 72 hours, or few days, multiple sclerosis symptoms (limbs numbness/weakness, vision loss, unsteady gait, slurred speech, bladder and bowel problems, dizziness, tingling) follow a relapsing/remitting course and last for weeks. Migraine drugs don't improve MS symptoms. Take care.

Probably not: There are new treatment for MS now.   See a neurologist and discuss your concern with him/her.

Symptoms? : The term complicated migraine is a diagnosis when migraine headache is associated with objective findings on examination such as weakness on one side or abnormal eye movements and when other causes have been ruled out the treatment depends on the exam and paraclinic findings.

In your case: You should not be trying to figure that out. Go to the hospital immediately. Let them sort that out.  And stop smoking.

7 years ago i had an episode diagnosis as a complicated migraine (aphasia, right side numb, holes in vision).  no episodes since then.  is it safe for me to take low dose oral contraceptives? i've been told yes and no.

OCP's and migraines: There are various contraindications to using estrogen-containing birth control methods  due to the risk of blood clots. One includes migraine with aura. While there is no consensus in the guidelines regarding whether estrogen-containing contraception is contraindicated, many suggest using a progestin-only method or barrier contraception. You can discuss your options with your primary care doctor.

Comments: The MRI lesions in MS do NOT typically "disappear", and if this has happened, you did NOT have MS.  Get a neurological consultation, but under the circumstances truly doubt your original diagnosis.

Variable.: If you have identical twin with MS, about 30%, but if no relative and you live north of latitudes 39-42, could be as high as 1 in 545 in the general population.  About 450,000 cases thought to be in USA, in a population over 300,000,000.

Need chronically: Some advice, there are pills available, but where you live, might be tough to get.  Nonetheless, do not miss your injections, and add Vitamin D-3 about 5000-10000 units per day.  We do not have a clear idea when to stop the MS meds, and in those older patients who I have stopped, a few have had relapses.  Stay tuned, drugs to be used differently are on the horizon.  (even Lemtrada)

i have multiple sclerosis & the symptoms of diabetes are so similar how do i know if i'm a diabetic? my dr. refers everything to multiple sclerosis.

Both are possible: To diagnose potential diabetes, screen with a hgb-a1-c, and more definitively, a 4 hr glucose tolerance test.  Many disorders may seem similar on the surface, but a diagnosis is based on several criteria which separates one from the other.  Best to spend some time with your doctor and learn what you do possess, and find the most effective treatments.  Have him/her address your areas of uncertainty.

my wife is 37 and has multiple sclerosis. she wants to get pregnant but i'm afraid that stopping her medication will do her harm. is it safe?

Yes: On the contrary ms will reduce the exacerbations , complications rate is same as non ms patients including postpartum issues, how ever need a team of collaborating physicians during pregnancy to carry through  , when to  take or to stop medications , speak to her doctor. Good luck.
