i just noticed a tiny mole-like dot on the inside of my left cheek, above my wisdom tooth. melanoma? my dad once had a pre-cancerous mole removed.

Likely benign: Pigmented lesions can be seen in the oral cavity. The most common are benign such as melanotic macules, nevi, smoker's melanosis, amalgam and graphite tattoos, racial pigmentation, and vascular blood-related pigments occur with some frequency. If it has been there for a while, it's likely benign. If it is relatively new, then follow up with your dentist/oral surgeon to rule out other causes.

Get a biopsy: If there is continued concern about a pigmented lesion on any part of your body, i would strongly urge you to talk to your doctor about obtaining a biopsy.  A biopsy allows closer microscopic examination which can provide peace of mind, or can help direct further therapy, if necessary.

i recently found black pigment on inside of my cheek where my wisdom teeth is and also black pigmentations in roof of my mouth. when i google searched it showed melanoma and i m v much stressed?

: Don't stress. Not sure what your risk factors are (smoking, chewing tobacco, alcohol), but internet searches are not the way to go. You'll need to make an appointment with a local dentist or oral who can actually examine you and biopsy the lesions if it is necessary.

Nevus: You likely have a nevus or freckle either genetic or due to a previous injury; extremely unlikely to be melanoma. See MD if concerned.

Yes!: Melanoma has about 50% probability of cure  as long as it has only spread to the regional lymph nodes. The number of nodes affected by tumor will determine the risk of relapse and the odds of achieving cure .

Persistent lump: Any mass that persists or grows larger over time deserves to be evaluated for potential cancer. Although most tumors in the scalp are simple benign cysts related to the hair structure, melanoma and other cancers can develop there as well. Melanoma is not usually familial, but your mother's experience should still be cautionary. Get it seen.

Yes...: ...if the melanoma has spread (metastasized) to your brain. If it's just on your skin, then totally not.

family discussion: Mohs proceedure is usually an outpatient proccedure where the doctor continues to cut out surrounding cells around a cancer until clear margins are encountered. Recovery depends on the extent of tissues removed and patient factors .Family can weigh the benefit.

Statistically most: moles do not become melanoma. However, it should be checked periodically by you and by your doctor and/or a dermatologist. Certainly if you notice it changing, once you figure out where it is, you should definitely have it looked at.

was born with mole on head.will bleaching hair cause mole to turn into melanoma?is it safe to bleach my hair?bleach will be on scalp. not dye, bleach.

Safe: Bleach or hair coloring does not cause melanoma. When you are on your horse or on your yacht, or when you go to a clothing-optional beach, wear a HAT. How dark or how pale is your skin?
