Try acid blockers: Most esophagitis will likely reflect injury from reflux of stomach contents (gerd) &amp; should typically respond to acid blocker medicines.  If you choose this route &amp; you derive no relief after 2 weeks of acid suppression treatment, then seek medical evaluation since esophagitis may be more severe than anticipated, or due to a variety of non-reflux causes. But, hiatal hernias are not cured by pills.

i developed esophagitis after taking tetracycline. what can i do next? is it resolved on their own or should i take any medicine to treat them?

: It depends on the reason for esophagitis. Aastric reflux, doxycycline getting stuck in the esophagus (for example if swallowed with only a small sip of water), and yeast infection (which can be triggered by doxycycline) all have potentially different implications and perhaps need for treatment. Best to discuss with the clinic or doctor who prescribed doxycycline.

PPI: a class of medication call proton pump inhibitors (PPI) has been shown to be most effective for erosive esophagitis, and includes medications like omeprazole. But be sure that you see a gastroenterologist to be sure that this is from reflux and not involve infectious or allergic (eosinophilic esophagitis) or complication of medications, for example. Prilosec: Prilosec is not considered a bad medication at all and has been taken by millions of people without dangerous effects. It will interfer with the absorption of vit B12 so it's wise to take B12 by injection or by tablets that dissolve in your mouth if you're taking Prilosec for months. Follow your gastroenterologist' s advice and heal up your gastritis and esophagitis.

Some curable: others manageable , if you follow your doctors advice , most of sliding hernias will not have symptoms , should be left alone with out surgery , only para esophageal type where only stomach herniates through  require  urgent repair as it  may strangulate stomach , Most of time GERD s may not have hiatus hernia at all .

Needs Re evaluation:  Majority of patients are managed clinically with a once daily dose of a PPI. Use of twice daily dosing of PPI or the addition of a nighttime H2 blocker to the daytime PPI therapy may be required for optimal control in a subset of patients such as those with Barrett’s esophagus or extra-esophageal disease .PPIs and H2 blockers have overlapping mechanisms of actions, which leads to more side effect
