What is esophagitis?

Inflammation: in the esophagus (swallowing pipe) - usually due to acid reflux but can be caused by other things. It makes your chest hurt especially with swallowing and acid reflux. Untreated esophagitis can lead to scarring and tight areas in your swallowing tube (strictures).
