Depends: Your surgeon is in the best position to tell you.  The answer depends upon the type of bunionectomy you are having performed, your overall health and your occupation.  If you have a sit-down job and can elevate your foot, y, then probably.  Of course, if it is your right foot, driving can be issue.  If you have to be on your feet for long periods of time at work, then probably not.

Pain and swelling.: Bunions can take a long time to recover from.  In the early stages you can expect pain, swelling and stiffness.  You will have to limit your activity for a while.  As you recover, you may need physical therapy.  It can take a while to advance into regular shoes and return to normal activity; full recovery can take up to a year. Most results are good, but the surgery isn't always successful.
