I had a bunionectomy and what should i expect from now on?

Pain and swelling.: Bunions can take a long time to recover from. In the early stages you can expect pain, swelling and stiffness. You will have to limit your activity for a while. As you recover, you may need physical therapy. It can take a while to advance into regular shoes and return to normal activity; full recovery can take up to a year. Most results are good, but the surgery isn't always successful.

Recovery.: The first few weeks after foot surgery gravity is your enemy. Keep your dressing clean, dry, and intact, and elevate the foot. The more you elevate, the less you swell. The less you swell, the less you hurt. Abide by the directions your surgeon gave you for weight bearing, and depending on which procedure you have done, you doctor will tell you when you may start exercising and weight bearing.

Narrower foot: Following a bunionectomy your forefoot will be a bit more narrow and you may fit more comfortably into your old shoes once the swelling subsides.
