cardiologist ordered echo and chest xray recently (i have been having ongoing heart palpitations) i had covid november of 2022. echo showed mild pericardial effusion and chest xray showed mild scarring and 1 lung nodule. can long covid cause this?

Accepted Answer

: If you did not have significant cardiopulmonary involvement during that covid-19 infection then long covid syndrome is very unlikely. As of this time, the described findings are not commonly listed as symptoms and signs of long covid syndrome although info is still limited. You will need a CT scan of the chest, I expect. Good luck with your work-up.

10 yr  bc survivor . cxr showed a solid nodule in lung, or in chest wall.  what's the difference of lung and chest wall?  scar tissue  fm mastectomy ?

Solid nodule: There are limitation with cxr. It is a 2d so, depending on your position when you had the cxr taken ( lateral, ap ?) , the angle, etc, sometimes, it will be hard  to say whether it is actually located where? Other imaging to evaluate the nodule in detail-like a ct scan of the chest would be a better and should be done. A pet scan should also be considered. I dont think it's from mastectomy's scar.

Follow up: Please follow up with Pulmonology to review risk factors such as family history of lung cancer. A report  and the imaging may be viewed during a HT virtual consultation. The calcification alone may represent prior infection, but additional information would be helpfu.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes it can be scar tissue and it is possible for it to resolve over time. You are low risk for malignant nodules so you can opt to do a follow up CT scan in a year to ensure stability.

i have a very small nodule on the apex of my lung found on chest x-ray my doctor saidit may be scar tissue or a blocked bone shadow, it is on the apex and i am 70 years old, is it cancer?

Possible: But more likely not. Further x-ray views or a ct might be helpful. Were you a smoker?

worried about a solid lung nodule 4 mm in 2009 and is now 7 mm, non calcified, smooth borders.  rad said it looks like benign soft tissue, possible granuloma.  do non calcified granulomas grow, and could a cancer grow at that growth rate?

Accepted Answer

Yes and yes.: Get an opinion from pulmonologist or thoracic surgeon regarding opinion about possible biopsy.  It depends whether or not the benefits of biopsy outweigh its risks.

father has multiple small lung nodules. does not smoke. had pneumonia several times and scarring from it on lungs 25 yrs ago. is 70. risk of cancer?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: This needs a systematic approach to diagnosis and may require some invasive procedures, depending upon what non-invasive studies reveal. It may take several visits to the doctor to have this all worked out. Could be very benign, but cancer must be excluded so that aggressive treatment can be started if it is present.

please tell me what does a lung nodule indicate?

Lung nodule: Lung nodules are densities in the lungs seen in imaging procedures. The indication depends on how they look like, calcified or not, cavitary or not. They can be scars, old granuloma, localized infection (benign ones) or they can be cancers. That is why when we see them we are aggressive in working them up to make sure they are diagnosed early as if cancer, best treatment is removal if not spread.

Lung nodule: Short term follow up is recommended ( every 6 months) for up to 2 years. If it increases in size then a pet scan and possible biopsy can be performed.

Accepted Answer

Small, but: Small but big enough to have a work-up or follow-up. See a lung specialist for that. Do you smoke?
