Usually hormones: Infants of either sex may have transient nipple/breast enlargement on one or both sides. It reflects maternal hormones that came in and were removed through the placenta until the cord was cut. Remaining hormones may produce this and or baby acne. Rarely if someone manipulates the breast the ducts will open allowing germs in. If it is warm/red/swollen it could be an abscess that needs treatment.

Needs eval: Reddish lump in an infant could be a vascular swelling or abormality sometimes. It can also be bruising due to trauma. If is not not painful (diffult to tell in an infant ) and no fever is present, swelling is usually not an infection. Make sure her pediatrician evaluates her swelling.

Time to see your doc: While this may be nothing, it can only be properly diagnosed by examination.  The list of possibilities includes things like swollen lymph glands,  small subq fat (lipoma) , cysts, . So the best thing to do is see your pediatrician for a good exam.

Lymphnode: I am asked about this all the time! in most instances these are small lymph nodes overlying the posterior skull and have no medical significance. The simplest solution is to ask your pediatrition to examine the area to rule out any serious pathology ; this could include reactive nodes secondary to a scalp condition and more generalized abnormalities of the lymphatic system.

Workup: I would suggest a workup to rule out infection and malignancy. Laboratory and imaging tests may include markers of inflammation, cultures and possible aspiration of the area under ultrasound guidance for further evaluation by the Pathology lab.
TB testing and local skin cleaning and application of an antibiotic cream may be helpful.

Sorry: but you MUST consult your baby's PEDIATRICIAN  ASAP or go to the Walk In Unit of a good General Hospital or preferably Children's hospital!

5month old baby, fever ranging from 38c to 39c. we found 2 swollen lumps at the back of the neck soft to touch but seems painful. how do we treat?

Depends: Low to mid range fever is both common at that age &amp; causes range from simple viruses to ear infections &amp; more. If the kid seems happy/feeds well &amp; plays some when the fever is down simple comfort measures at home are fine. If the kid doesn't take fluids well enough to pee every 6 hrs/seems lethargic or otherwise spooks you take it in for an exam.

im a 23 year old female, 11 weeks ago gave birth to a large baby, have noticed a firm lump on the left side of abdomen, i put it down to my body changing and getting back to normal state but it hasn't gone, causing no pain?

11 wks post delivery: If you had a C-section, the "lump" is probably a hematoma, or stitch abscess.  If you had a normal delivery, this mass could be a hernia or a torn abdominal muscle.  See your OB physician for an exam. All of the above are easily treated.

my baby fell on bed she is 7 months and i went for skull xray and there is no damage only a dent in back of the head am worried the in injured side is soft and when a toucch i feel something small like a lump should i be worried will the dent heal?

: Your infant seems to have developed a small subcutaneous hematoma (collection of blood) which should resolve by itself.  Watch for changes in alertness, vomiting, and general activity.
