: In general, probably best to hold at least the dose or two before the procedure. However, each dentist or oral surgeon may have his or her own policies. And depending on why you're on Lovenox, the advice of the prescribing doctor might be important. Check with either or both offices at least a couple of days before the scheduled extraction. Acute DVT Rx: npatient treatment (with or without pulmonary embolism): 1 mg/kg/dose every 12 hours or 1.5 mg/kg once daily.

Outpatient treatment (without pulmonary embolism): 1 mg/kg/dose every 12 hours.

Obesity: Use actual body weight to calculate dose; dose capping not recommended; use of twice daily dosing preferred

i have factor five leiden with protein c deficiency. i just switched to pradaxa and dont like the side effects so im switching back to warfarin. im taking lovenox shots while i transition. is it ok if i take the shot an hour late so i can sleep in?

: Taking the Lovenox 1 hour later will not affect the effectiveness very much. It is ok to take a dose within an hour of the dose being due as this will still keep you anti-coagulated while you transition back to warfarin. Good luck to you!

my 90 year old dad needs a tooth extracted and his dr told him stop xarelto, plavix and aspirin 5 days before and start lovenox shots. these lovenox shots can be taken while having the extraction? these shots won't increase bleeding?

: The Lovenox  is an anticoagulant and if recommended by doctor than it is safe. Consult with your surgeon as to protocol of shots.

i'm 34 only health issues is blood clotting disorder i took lovenox shots in my stomach. other than that i was healthy. my normal weight is 140-150, for the last 3 years ive stayed at 170 i cant seem to loose it! now my right ankle is swelling.???

: I do not see the relationship between persistent weight gain with the current right ankle swelling. Due to history of clotting (thrombosis) and now with unilateral ankle swelling, I cannot rule out recurrent venous thrombosis on that site although you are on Lovenox (not 100% effective to prevent blood clot).
You need Doppler of that leg &amp; ask your doctor to check thyroid hormone at the same time.

Lovenox (enoxaparin) & bones: Yes, long-term use of Lovenox (enoxaparin) over many months is known to cause bone loss. If this is a concern, a different anticoagulant shot known as Arixtra can be considered. Additionally, there are new oral anticoagulants such as xarelto that can be considered as well.

Clotting hx ?'s: Pregnancy with a history of clotting is treated usually with Lovenox or heparin for effective reduction of clotting incidence. Both medications are effective , with minimal complications and dependable effectiveness.  Increased clotting in pregnancy is b/c of increased agents produced during pregnancy, and treatment may prevent significant negative effects for the fetus.

Blood thiner: Levenox or enoxaparin is a low molecular weight Heparin  used same as Heparin , is derived from pigs intestine , used for prophylaxis for thrombo-embolism, for pulmonary embolism, coronary heart diseases.

No: Lovenox (enoxaparin) is a low molecular weight Heparin (lmwh).  Unfractionated Heparin (UFH) and all other lmwhs must be injected to be effective.  There are, however, multiple other anticoagulant oral meds that might be used depending upon the reason you need anticoagulation.  They have some trade offs in   cost and complexity, however.
